Chiesa della Spina, Pisa

The Santa Maria della Spina church, dating from the 13th century, is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Pisa. The ornate decoration of the facades and the numerous statues provide many perching and nesting sites for pigeons. Starting in November 2104, the church was cleaned and renovated. 小島Bird Free was installed in December 2015, after renovation was complete, to prevent re-infestation by pigeons.

On 20 March 2016, Marco Guerrazzi, Director of Public Estate and Heritage Buildings for the Municipality of Pisa commented:

“The Chiesa della Spina used to suffer from a severe infestation of pigeons, and their droppings caused an unsightly mess on the statues of the church. In December 2015, Entomox Pest Control completed the installation of Bird Free bird deterrent to all the infested parts of the church. Now, pigeons no longer nest or roost on the previously infested parts. We can confirm that the installation of Bird Free has been a success.”

A further inspection, carried out at dusk on 20 June 2016, confirmed that the infestation had been completely eradicated.
